Resilience | Revival | Bamboo Gang

Meet Brother Guang from the Bamboo Gang, a friend from Taoyuan City’s Fuxing District.

This sickle represents the livelihoods of those in the mountains, the cultural significance of bamboo in the Atayal community, and the importance of forest conservation and carbon neutrality.

While many are aware that Taiwan’s bamboo products come from Zhushan, and that bamboo utensils are often replaced by plastic or cheaper imports, fewer know that bamboo from Taoyuan and Hsinchu also contributes to Japan’s esteemed kendo practice. Even less known is how bamboo forest management is closely linked to local regeneration, mountain disaster prevention, smart energy solutions, and sustainable environments.

In the mountains, we join forces with the Bamboo Gang, navigating the dense bamboo forests with sickles and chainsaws. Together, we carve out a path for community development and resilient villages, driven by strength and determination.

Together, they have organized the special exhibition Building the Future with Bamboo: A Documentary on Bamboo Forest Management. This event will take place at the Dongyanshan National Forest Recreation Area Visitor Center from September 23 to October 23, 2022.

We warmly invite everyone to explore the future of Taiwan’s bamboo industry and join us in taking steps toward sustainable forest conservation and development!
