My USR Showcase – Dynamic and Diverse Results Video
‘A crooked sword reflects a crooked heart.’ The protagonist, struggling to make progress in kendo, embarks on a journey in search of the best materials for making a bamboo sword. With doubts and expectations, he travels to the homeland of Moso bamboo—Fuxing District in Taoyuan. Along the way, however, he begins to discover something even more important…
Taoyuan’s Fuxing District is the largest by area and least populated district in Taoyuan City. It is also the only district designated by the Executive Yuan for regional revitalization in Taoyuan. Due to its mountainous location and drastic climate changes, the district faces long-term threats from rockfalls, landslides, and mudflows. During disasters, power and communication outages often occur, making rescue efforts more difficult. Being located within the catchment area of the Shimen Reservoir, water shortages and water resource protection are also significant concerns.
This project began in 2019 with deep engagement in Fuxing District, collaborating with schools such as Yisheng Elementary School, Changxing Elementary School, Luofu Elementary School, and Jieshou Junior High School. We organized activities on disaster prevention, energy, and water resources, presenting knowledge in a fun and engaging way while installing machines to collect data and develop related learning topics.
