Taiwan aims to achieve “net-zero carbon emissions” by 2050, and did you know that bamboo in the mountains can actually help with that? There are over 180,000 hectares of bamboo forests in the country, with an estimated stock of 1.58 billion bamboo poles. However, despite this abundance, bamboo needs to be thinned and harvested. Yet, since 2016, many bamboo farmers have stopped harvesting bamboo, and production has hit a historic low. Why is that?
