Building on five years of experience in promoting the bamboo industry in the Fuxing District, our team organized a two-day SIG topic exchange event titled “Thriving with Environment and Advancement with Bamboo” in July 2024. We welcomed representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Forestry and Nature Conservation Administration, as well as academic institutions including National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chung Cheng University, National Ilan University, and Ming Chuan University. Additionally, professionals from Dazhong United Architects and Gengshan Agricultural Innovation Co., Ltd. participated.

On the first day, attendees engaged in discussions regarding the pivotal role of the bamboo industry in global sustainable development. The focus included relevant policies impacting Taiwan’s bamboo industry, how the government is tackling sustainability challenges, and pathways for promoting more sustainable development within the sector. Discussions also highlighted how educational institutions can spearhead local revitalization and drive industry innovation through technological advancements and value applications.

The second day featured a visit to Fuxing District in Taoyuan City, where participants toured You Shun Bamboo Industry Co., Ltd. and the Taoyuan City Fuxing Bamboo Industry Development Association. They explored the current state of the bamboo industry and the primary site designated for establishing a bamboo sorting yard, gaining valuable insights into the management of underutilized bamboo forests. Participants also engaged in discussions with local partners.

In total, 98 participants attended this event. Through this initiative, we aim to consolidate global interest in the bamboo industry, collaboratively explore more innovative and sustainable development directions, and enhance the USR project and local revitalization team’s efforts in shaping a comprehensive sustainable development strategy.
