Advocacy of Disaster Prevention Resilient Community
A resilient community is one that possesses a high tolerance for disasters, enabling it to respond swiftly and recover effectively. This project aims to educate and guide local residents of all ages on the principles of disaster prevention resilience, inviting their participation in formulating intelligent disaster prevention strategies across four key stages: disaster reduction, preparedness, response, and recovery. We are currently advancing resilient community development in Yisheng Li through a variety of activities, including field studies of potential disaster zones, resource gathering, discussions on disaster-related topics, disaster simulations, learning games, the creation of digital elevation models for disaster prevention, and relevant workshops. Our goal is to foster a sense of autonomous disaster prevention within the community and enhance its ability to respond to disasters before, during, and after they occur. We aspire to assist local residents in updating their disaster risk maps, comprehensively assessing potential risks in their area, and digitizing relevant information to strengthen their disaster prevention capabilities.
In addition, our team has organized fire safety classes tailored to the needs of Yisheng Li, in collaboration with the community culture and health center, focusing on raising fire safety awareness among the elderly and women. Fire safety instructors were invited to engage local residents in discussions about household fire safety and self-rescue measures, accompanied by practical drills. This knowledge is especially pertinent and beneficial for women in their daily lives. We also conducted simulation drills in Yisheng Li, involving disaster prevention personnel, community members, and local officials. These drills included practical exercises that clarified participant responsibilities and outlined evacuation processes during disasters. Through these hands-on activities, community members become more familiar with self-initiated disaster prevention and learn how to cooperate effectively in emergency situations.
Furthermore, our team has evaluated existing community resources and past initiatives to assist Yisheng Li in applying for a resilient community star emblem from the Ministry of the Interior, which has been successfully accredited. The community leader hopes that this recognition will facilitate the integration of disaster prevention resources in Yisheng Li and ensure the continued operation of the community as a resilient entity.
