In June 2024, the Legislative Yuan passed amendments to the Indigenous Reserved Land Logging Ban Compensation Act. The annual compensation for logging bans on Indigenous land was doubled, from NT$30,000 to NT$60,000 per hectare, increasing the budget from NT$2.7 billion to NT$4.2 billion. However, the 2025 general budget failed to allocate sufficient funds, drawing criticism from opposition parties and independent Indigenous legislator Kao Chin Su-mei. Following repeated rejections and protests, the Executive Yuan relented in early November, pledging to address the shortfall through supplementary budget allocations.
