Under the Indigenous Reserved Land Logging Ban Compensation Act, landowners can apply for compensation if their land meets the logging ban criteria, with at least 70% bamboo and wood coverage and no evidence of illegal logging. However, many landowners lack a clear understanding of the 70% coverage standard, leading to mismanagement of bamboo forests. As a result, many areas are left untended or abandoned, accelerating forest aging, disrupting Taiwan’s bamboo industry, and jeopardizing the livelihoods of bamboo harvesting teams.
