In a nice morning, we once again kicked off our journey to Yi Sheng Primary School. Students of NCU have prepared different topics of environment this time and are ready to engage in brain storming with the children. The children’s sunny mood was just like this day’s shinny sun. They welcome our coming with strong passion. They shared with the big brothers and big sisters of their new discovery and the life in school happily.
The wording “Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction” has already been imprinted into our daily repertoire. Yet, this topic is still a meaningful and hot topic in the forum of international environmental issues. This topic has repeatedly attracted public attention with hot discussion. The class started with “Why should we save energy?” This beginning stirred up hot discussion among the children. Followed by the topic of “how could we save energy and reduce carbon?” We let the children share with the others the way they prefer for this purpose. Actions like switching off the light after use, using public means of transportation, support the purchase of products bearing the environmental protection logo. This made carbon reduction linked to our daily lives. Guided by the questions of the students from NCU and the explanation of the program, the children have some basic idea about the topic of carbon reduction and understand the importance of carbon reduction and the association between themselves and carbon reduction.
After the end of the program, the supervisor’s big brothers and sisters arranged an interesting game time. The first game is “I am a super archer”. Every child could have the chance to win a ball thrower if respond to any question. They discussed the answers to the questions eagerly, and just stared at the supervisor by their side when puzzled. They are very cute. This game allows the children to review what they just learned in class, and integrate the knowledge they learned with their daily lives. Knowledge is no longer just a matter of textbook content, but it also exists in the real world for practice.
The second game is “you draw and I guess”. This game test the tacit understanding and imagination of the children. One of the teams has picked the topic of “Wind Power”. One pupil has drawn the howling north wind, and then it turned into heavy rain and gale, and finally the typhoon day. Each pupil has demonstrated their creativity and imputed a little bit of their thoughts and elements. A fresh picture has come into being then. The children made joke on one another in the game. They laughed at one another on any wrong answer in humor and joy. With this amusing game, the topic of carbon reduction could deeply imprinted into the minds of these children.
The event today let me understand the meaning of every environmental protection logo better, and the influence of green energy industry on our daily lives. I hope these children can absorb the knowledge brought to them by the big brothers and sisters successfully in this happy moment of learning. I am also very pleased to be involved in this meaningful process.
