We held training for disaster prevention guards at NCU last year and have invited 4 partners from Yisheng Li of Funxing District to join the training. These 4 partners have successfully passed the training and are accredited as Disaster Prevention Guards. Many partners who did not have the opportunity to join the training last time have asked us about the time for the next training program. This is a long journey between NCU and Fuxing District. We have to pass through a mountainous zone and get through the ordeal of traffic congestion during peak hours in the evening. Many partners are eager to learn about disaster prevention. What we think is how to make it more convenient for them to participate in events of disaster prevention.
The project team, together with NCU’s Disaster Prevention Center, discussed organizing a disaster prevention specialist training course in the mountains. The goal was to encourage any interested partners in Fuxing District to participate in a local training session without having to travel far. This course, specifically tailored for Fuxing District, would allow participants to learn in their own community alongside family and friends, gaining knowledge on how to address the challenges unique to their land. This approach is not only interesting but also highly meaningful.
The content of the two-day training is very solid. The concept and mission of the Disaster Prevention Guard were introduced. There were also many exercise drills so that everyone could be more familiar with the actions taken in response to disasters. “The local administrative head was wounded. Please help dress the wound quickly”. “Do not press that quick! Follow the rhythm!” It is just a demonstration drill, but the partners respond in a way that is a real disaster. They are very serious and indulgent in the scenario.
We are moved as we witnessed the seriousness of the partners in taking the training. It is fruitful. They value every bit of all resources and the joy they have will be countless. The 28 partners who have received the Disaster Prevention Gaurd training have passed the test and accredited as Disaster Prevention Guard. Perhaps this is just a small scale training but it means a great step forward to the buildup of a resilient community. There will be more and more people in Fuxing District joining the cause of disaster prevention.
