Assessment of Bamboo Waste-to-Energy Potential

In partnership with You Shun Bamboo Co., Ltd. and the Bamboo Association, our team conducted a feasibility study on the reuse of waste materials generated by the makino bamboo (Phyllostachys makinoi) industry in the Fuxing District. Local bamboo waste was collected by the student team and initially processed on campus using a coarse crusher. The partially processed material was then sent to an external contractor for fine crushing and pelletizing, producing bamboo fuel briquettes. Fuel performance data were analyzed concurrently to assess energy efficiency. In parallel, bamboo charcoal production trials were carried out to explore its potential applications in soil improvement and other uses. This project serves as an experimental initiative for bamboo waste management and resource recycling in the Fuxing District.
