Disaster prevention model

Given that Yisheng Village contains several dip slopes identified as potential debris flow hazard zones, raising community disaster awareness and strengthening self-reliant disaster prevention capabilities have become top local priorities. In collaboration with Yisheng Elementary School and Yisheng Village, the student team initiated disaster prevention education by first producing a base model of a numerical elevation relief map. They then guided elementary school students and village residents in hands-on workshops to recreate the landscapes surrounding their homes, enabling participants to view their living environment from new perspectives, learn to interpret disaster prevention maps, and acquire essential disaster preparedness knowledge.
Subsequently, following discussions with Sanguang Elementary School and in response to local disaster prevention teaching needs, the team produced a dedicated numerical elevation relief map for the school. This allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of their hometown’s geography and to explore a range of topics—including disaster prevention and cultural heritage—through map-based learning.
Furthermore, the project engaged Luofu High School students in assembling small-scale relief maps of their own villages, offering a practical and interactive approach to strengthening their understanding of both the local environment and disaster prevention concepts.
