The activity for today at Yi Sheng Primary School is the lesson of wind power. They are lucky. They will also have a field trip at Wang Kung Wind Power Farm in this semester. The lesson today will be the preliminary training for the field trip. The teaching brother on the stage showed the slides to the pupils with explanation and engaged in interaction with them. The pupils seemed a bit loose at the beginning but gradually started their concentration at the theme of the topic under the guidance of the big brother. They then entered the world of wind power.
Further to the teaching with the aid of slide show, there is also the handcraft session of making improvised wind power generator. This small piece of improvised work successfully attracted the eyeballs of the pupils. The wind stirred up by people running did light up the bulb amid the laughter of the pupils. Perhaps the best way for the pupils to learn is not just sitting in classroom to learn in one-way teaching. Observation and handcraft could be the most impressive way of teaching pupils.
Finally, the teaching brother concluded the lesson with a quiz. Pupils who got the right answer could have the right to pick up the spot on the map for setting up a wind power generator. Then I realized that I was so wrong to assume that these pupils did not listen to me seriously in class. They could answer my questions correctly and directly without hesitation. Even I myself was hesitated somehow and they could give the correct answer without any hesitation. I recalled when I participated in this kind of event when I was a child, the supervisor was so exhausted in trying to motivate us. When we grow up, I feel that we are so reserved and shy. But I did not feel such scene here today. All participated enthusiastically. I was also moved by something else. When the winners are to be announced at the end, those who did not win also shouted aloud and applauded. They are very positive in the game and winning the award or not seemed to be trivial in their world.
This was the first time that I joined an education event at primary school. As I recalled, the activities of this day must have impressed the pupils very deeply. Perhaps on the day when they visit Wang Kung Wind Power Farm, they will associate with the improvised generator model made today and will remember the correct answers in the quiz and where in Taiwan have wind power generators been installed. For me, I witnessed the satisfaction of the children in the simplest form, and we might fall into the pitfall of caring so much about winning.

We arrived at the auditorium of Yi Sheng Primary School today with wind power generation in Taiwan as the topic. We had a great time with the pupils by doing some hand work with them to translate the knowledge in mind into real action. This was my first time to Yi Sheng Primary School, everything seems to be so strange but hopeful to me. When I put out my camera and got ready to record the happy time today, I heard jolly laughter. A little girl in a long-sleeve red dress approached me with hopping and jumping and asked me in a smile, “Are you going to film me today? I am longing for today’s event!” I wanted to remember this moment quickly. But I was at a loss. I could not respond fast enough to tape down every step of the pleasant moves of this little girl.
The big brothers of NCU were so steady on the podium in presenting their lecture but the pupils down there were so enthusiastic and passionate, and interacted very much with the big brothers on the podium The pupils have some basic knowledge about the development of energy in Taiwan with the help of making an improvised power generators with their own hands and the nicely designed renewable energy game.
In the course of the game, the pupils teamed up into several groups for competition. They eagerly choose the locations on the map that are most suitable for the energy development in Taiwan with their understanding of renewable energy in Taiwan, and marks will be given. The teams competed with one another in the game. They strive to answer the questions. If anything is uncertain, they will quickly discuss it with the supervisor, Big Brother for a solution. This kind of positive and eager learning environment impressed me. I was attracted to their hand raising for answering the questions inadvertently, and their smiles on their faces when getting along with the big brothers and sisters.
At the time of the total scoring, the energy little brother just pushed the pair of glasses on his nose upward, approached me, and introduced himself to me with the improvised wind power generator he had just finished. Perhaps I had paid too much attention to the camera, and I was a little numb. Then he said to me, “Big sister, I want a smile from you”. I quickly put down my camera and responded. Then I saw him run for the supervisor’s brother and murmur. It is obvious that this kid must be so energetic. The pupils of Yi Sheng Primary School are lively and easy, very witty.
At the end of the event, the pupils told us that they were very happy as they joked with one another. The exchange with the pupils of Yi Sheng Primary School in this event today is just a flash event in the name of education. But rather a warm harmony from the heart in which we connected our inside world to each other through our exchange.
